Featuring sets by Chirimeros (SYD) playing their energetic roots and folkloric music showcasing African influences mixed with indigenous Colombian coastal rhythms and INKA MARKA (Melb) with their infections brand of Andean folk music PLUS a special performance by street funk masters BRASS KNUCKLE BRASS BAND, the concert will also feature a mystery dance crew who will perform a unique Day of The Dead performance.

7th Latin American Film Festival

2012

An energetic band with folkloric influences from all reaches of Colombia.

From the Caribbean they take and play the Cumbian Gaita, Puya, Porro, Merengue and Mapale rhythms. From the Pacific they give us a taste of rhythms such as the Currulao, the Jota and the Porro Chocoano. These rhythms demonstrate the African influences mixed with those of indigenous and native Colombian. Finally, Chirimeros will perform traditional music from the Andean region of Colombia, which exposes us to Pasillo and the Banbuco.

CUMBIAMUFFIN plus CHIRIMEROS

Put together by Colombian and Australian musicians, 13-piece orquestra Cumbiamuffin and 4-member Chirimeros have the common vision of introducing the purest sounds of traditional Cumbia to the Australian audiences, playing the classics that made this genre the most popular rhythm in Latin America during the 80’s and that now is taking over the world.
